"I just wanted to say hi, get to know the team better, you know..." I say to him
After a little while, I say, "So, have you and anyone else on the team met in the past?"

"Only our pilot, and he's not coming with us after he drops us off at the mission location."
Re: RtD Altered - Happy New year!
"Ah, I see. So then we're all strangers here. I hope we will all work well together." I say to him
I pause for a second, and then ask, "So how did you end up in this line of work?"

"I was born on Enigma. Since I was a child, I had braved Enigma's depths. At first for something shiny, then as my life's work."
Dwiin Rovaan glances around, and spots a bottle of alcohol. He opens and sips it.
"It's a fairly long story. I suppose we may have time, however, considering how long the other team members are taking."

Re: RtD Altered - Happy New year!
"Enigma huh... That's a harsh place to grow up in. I take it that arm of yours is a replacement for one you lost there? I'm surprised you didn't lose more than an arm there." I say to him, while pointing to his mechanical arm. "I've only been to enigma a few times in my life, and not as a tourist. I've seen what enigma can do to people... Especially the ones who live on poverty; fighting for scraps dropped down from the higher levels." I shake my head, and then think, there's no harm in telling him a bit of my past. Just so long as I don't reveal too much....
"You make my past seem rather dull... All that exploring and searching enigma sounds rather exciting...
What little family I had, died when I was a just a child. I grew up in the university, surrounded by knowledge. Those days were the best of my life. Then, one day, something happened, something I had no power over. Some events led to others, and in only a month, my entire life had fallen apart. Slowly after that, I began to rebuild my life and, well, here I am now." I said to him.
Nothing I had said was false, I just missed out on a century or so.

Trying to backtrack to the ship, you become distracted by a sweaty, unclean merchant who is trying to convince a young girl to buy from him, and you head in that direction.

As you look around for a bathroom, a hand grabs you and pulls you backwards, trying to suffocate you. You are pulled backwards into the alley.
And you might not have to go to the bathroom anymore.

You manage to track the gunman through the streets, and find him heading down an alleyway towards a merchant and a young girl.

Not sure if roll or not, but I'll assume it is.

The guards you find are nice enough to you, and talk about the current state of affairs on the planet, and in the region.

Re: RtD Altered - Happy New year!
Arriving back at the ship to find Dwiin and the mystery man chatting, I decide to keep quiet for a while as they talk. "Not meaning to interrupt," I say as I reveal myself from behind the ship, "but I got our contact. As soon as Staadnau gets back, we can head off." I lean back against the ship, closing my eyes against the desert sun. Keeping my eyes closed, I think about all that has happened in the past few days.
"So, Sam, what other info do you have for me?" I whisper to him under my breath, keeping my eyes closed. "And what else do you know about the mission?"
Ask Sam for other information he has, including details and objectives of the mission.

"At least you had a static place to call home. Enigma's depths were mine. You're extremely likely to get lost."
Dwiin Rovaan sips his drink.
"In fact, I did. For eight years, I was trapped in the depths. I learned to use its' technology. The machines within were my greatest enemy, but also my greatest ally. As for food, well, let's just say I'm not the only one who got lost. Rather, I'm one of the few who escaped. There were a few groups I met, small camps who were willing to share food in exchange for work. One of the camps taught me your language. When I say I'm fluent in the writing the Timeless used, I'm not kidding."
He pauses, giving you a chance to speak.
No roll.

Re: RtD Altered - Happy New year!
"Did he say Timeless? This is great news, with his help, I might be able to decipher it!" I think to myself, "Wait, you're fluent in Timeless script?" I say with disbelief, "I must say I am extremely impressed! I have searched far and wide for someone like you, and I never expected to find him here, on Tartarus. I can't wait to start working together!" I say.
Perhaps I should be a bit more honest with them then, I need to stick with him or at least befriend him in order to be able to contact him when I go search for the cube again.
I turn to the other man and say, "You never told me your name, I'm Haelis, in case Dwinn didn't tell you."
No roll.

"Indeed. Unless the Arcana or Tartarus dialects differ from the Enigma ones, which does happen on occasion. However, it's only a few minor differences here and there, easy enough to decipher. As for the vaults themselves, it's an identifying mark, not a word."

You locate the shop without difficulty, but the owner is not in at the moment. One of the other staff says that the crystal is at largest a minor crystal, but other than that has no other information for you.

Unfortunately, the spell you attempt to cast doesn't work. You start to follow the gunman, without your spell active.

There are no ships in the area to take you now, but the guards expect some to arrive soon, that might be willing to take you.

Your attacker proves to be stronger than you, but your endurance is proving problematic for them. You are not unconscious yet, but your attacker is tiring.

Disappointed that he had no more information than that for me, I sink deep into thought about the mission, and how strange it is. Deciding that I have better uses of my time, I grill Sam for more details on the mission.
Get more information about the mission from Sam. Make him remember more details.

Re: RtD Altered - Happy New year!
That's very intriguing. I'm fascinated by the Timeless, It's been a lifelong passion of mine." I pause for a moment and think, "Here's an interesting story you might like, I once ventured into some Ancient ruins on Arcana, which when I first entered I thought belonged to the Timeless. It took me only a few moments to realize that I was in fact standing not in Timeless ruins, but in Antecedent ruins.
The Antecedents, as they teach you in school, were the Civilization that came right before ours. Not nearly as old as the Timeless, but definitely with just as much history. What they tell you in school, is that the Antecedents killed each other off in a great world war. New discoveries point that this is not the case. The Antecedents did participate in a world war that would surely have destroyed them, but right before they did, like the Timeless, they vanished without a trace.
Evidence shows that during the war, the two opposing factions were in a frantic race to complete some sort of research, and when they did finish it, some outside force erased it, and to make sure no one could reproduce it, their entire race. It was as if some sort of god, decided that such a discovery had no place in our universe, and so he plucked it out."
I stop for a second to let him think and then say,
"That... Disappearance, and chain of events, is rather similar to what the previous civilization went through; The Van-Couriers, and the same that the Timeless went through.
What's more, in those Antecedent ruins that I found, there was a certain... symbol. One which also appears in Timeless structures. I have come to the conclusion, that The Antecedents where on the verge of discovering the same thing the Timeless and the Van-Couriers discovered, and like them, they too disappeared. Not a lot is known about the Van-Couriers, only that they died out in a war like the Antecedents. And even less is known about the ones that came before them. The thing is that both the Antecedents and the Van-Couriers disappeared at the same point of Civilization maturity. And judging by the usual time span between civilizations, It's easy to guess that the ones before also reached an end at that exact same point in development.
You're probably thinking and making connections, but that's not necessary. I've already done that and have arrived at the same conclusion you have now. Someone, or something, is trying awfully hard to keep a secret, and in the process, is erasing the existence of entire Civilizations."
I let it sink in for a few moments and then move on to say, "There's just one problem though. We know that the Timeless didn't disappear at that point, and that their rule lasted for countless millennia. So long that they found a way to immortalize their legacy, which is why we can see their ruins today. everything they leave behind lives on.
We also know that the Timeless were the first.
All of this gives me reason to believe that the Timeless are involved in these mass disappearances. Which would mean that contrary to popular belief, they are somehow still around.
Now, I know this sounds crazy, and it might be complete bogus, but I have a feeling in my gut that tells me that perhaps I'm not too far off.
No roll
OOC: Sorry, kinda rushed it. please excuse any inconsistencies.

The Steel Wanderer pauses for a moment.
"Would this be the symbol you speak of?"
He pulls a small piece of paper out of a pocket, one that is a common sighting near Timeless ruins, but near-omnipresent in Enigma.
This symbol is also the only one engraved on the sole entrance to Enigma's heart.
