Not surprised that you have not heard about Dodonpachi Saidaioujou and ∀kashicverse, they are from STG/Shmup genre, which is kinda niche at the moment sadly, but they are awesome games if you are into STG/Shmup genre =P .

∀kashicverse i consider spiritual successor of Hellsinker, another awesome game, not of this year though.

I am kinda surprised that you have not heard about FTL though, considering that both me and IE played it alot and posted about our successes there XD. It's kinda roguelike space ship simulator, good kind of 'simulator' though =P.

Colonel Longhena and I did an FTL run at the same time.

I picked the Zoltan B ship, got a free Burst Laser Mk3 (but nowhere near enough power to use it without shutting down all my other weapons).

I ran out of fuel.

Then the Rebels caught up with me.

He, on the other hand, gets free everything and is currently smashing the Flagship into oblivion.
